In case you missed the February breakfast, here are some points shared by Wendy Kinsey, President of Junior Achievement of Cleveland on the value of mentoring.

Successful mentors have:
Commitment
Capability (in their area of expertise)
Flexibility

Interpersonal skills
Sense of humor

Mentors and mentees both benefit, by gaining:
Improved communication skills
Leadership skills
Self-confidence
Inner satisfaction
Time managment skills
Recognition
The opportunity to challenge themselves

Stats:
• Mentored students skipped school half as many days as the control group.
• Mentored young people are 46% less likely to try drugs; mentored minority youth are 70% less likely to dry drugs than the control group.
• Of youth in the juvenile justice system, 38% of mentored youth re-offended, while 64% of  non-mentored youth re-offended.
